--RHP Francisco Rodriguez has been dealing with a "tender" quadriceps muscle, manager Jerry Manuel said. The issue came to light after assistant trainer Mike Herbst and Manuel came to the mound to check on K-Rod during the ninth inning Sunday.

MEDICAL WATCH:

OF Gary Sheffield (sore lower back) left the Aug. 25 game, and he did not play Aug. 26-27. He pinch-hit Aug. 28 but sat out again Aug. 29-Sept. 6.

CF Carlos Beltran (bone bruise in right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list June 22. He began a rehab assignment with short-season Class A Brooklyn on Sept. 2 and hopes to join the Mets on Sept. 8.

RHP John Maine (right shoulder weakness) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 7. He made a rehab appearance with Class A St. Lucie on June 22. He was scratched from a June 27 start with Class A Brooklyn. He resumed throwing in early July, but had another setback in late July. He began a new rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie on Sept. 5 and may return on Sept. 13.

1B Carlos Delgado (labrum tear in right hip) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 11, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 5. He had surgery May 19. His rehab was slowed in mid-August by a strained right oblique muscle, and it's uncertain if he'll return this season.

SS Jose Reyes (sore right hamstring) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to May 21. He left an extended spring training game June 3 and was diagnosed with a small hamstring tear. He had a cortisone shot July 7, delaying his return. In early August, he was diagnosed with scar tissue and inflammation behind his right knee, and it's uncertain if he'll return this season.

OF Fernando Martinez (torn meniscus in right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to July 4. He had surgery July 14.

RHP Fernando Nieve (strained right quadriceps) went on the 15-day disabled list July 20. He is out for the season.

LHP Oliver Perez (sore right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 24. He had season-ending surgery Sept. 1.

LHP Johan Santana (bone spurs in left elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 21. He had season-ending surgery Sept. 1.

INF Alex Cora (ligament surgery on both thumbs) went on the 60-day disabled list Aug. 18. He had season-ending surgery Aug. 20.

RHP J.J. Putz (bone spur in right elbow) went on the 60-day disabled list June 5. He had surgery June 9, and he was shut down for the season Aug. 25.

INF Ramon Martinez (fractured left pinkie) went on the 15-day disabled list June 3, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on June 19. He had surgery June 4.

LHP Jon Niese (torn right hamstring) went on the 60-day disabled list Aug. 6, and he had season-ending surgery the same day.
