
--RHP Mike Pelfrey committed three balks Sunday, matching a franchise record established in 1963 by Don Rowe. The last major-leaguer to balk three times in a game was Al Leiter as a Blue Jay in 1994. "It seemed like I had almost like the yips," Pelfrey said. "I was fighting myself to come set. My mind kept telling me to pick the guy off."
--LHP Oliver Perez, on the disabled list with right knee tendonitis, threw three innings in an extended spring training game Saturday. Perez, who had a 9.97 ERA with the Mets, allowed no hits, struck out seven and walked four while tossing 56 pitches. --OF Jeremy Reed started his first two major-league games at first base over the weekend in San Francisco. Reed, who played first base at Long Beach State University, had manned the position for only one inning as a professional before the series against the Giants.
--RHP J.J. Putz returned to action Saturday in San Francisco, two days after receiving an anti-inflammatory injection to address elbow swelling caused by a bone spur. Putz picked up his first Mets save with Francisco Rodriguez unavailable after appearing the previous four days. "Today it felt like my arm was nice and free and easy and loose -- almost like effortless to get through," Putz said.
