--2B Damion Easley was diagnosed with a strained right quadriceps muscle, which he injured Saturday. He was unable to take batting practice or do fielding drills Monday. --RHP Brandon Knight, an Olympic bronze medalist, will receive a spot start Wednesday against the Nationals, interim manager Jerry Manuel confirmed. The start by Knight is needed because Friday's rainout pushed Johan Santana into a Saturday doubleheader.
--C Ramon Castro caught rookie Bobby Parnell in the eighth. It was Castro's first appearance since returning from a right quadriceps strain.
--SS Jose Reyes produced his 300th career RBI with a third-inning groundout.
--RHP Bobby Parnell made his major league debut. With the Mets trailing by five runs in the eighth against the Nationals on Monday night, interim manager Jerry Manuel inserted Parnell into the game. A week after his 24th birthday, Parnell required only eight pitches for a 1-2-3 inning. Now Manuel is pledging to try him again, perhaps in a more meaningful spot. Parnell is viewed as a future closer candidate, though he won't be thrust into anything close to that role in the season's final 13 games.
BY THE NUMBERS: 100 -- RBI plateau reached by David Wright, Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran. It marked the third time the Mets have three 100-RBI players.
