--1B Carlos Delgado had his sixth multi-homer game of 2008 in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader. That's one shy of Dave Kingman's franchise-record seven multi-homer games set in 1976.
--RHP John Maine was instructed by team doctors to wait another week before tossing a baseball. Maine is now ready to resume arm exercises, which he had halted upon landing on the disabled list with a bone spur behind his right shoulder. With three weeks left in the season, Maine's only hope of returning this season appears to be as a relief pitcher. He still will require offseason surgery. --INF Ramon Martinez made his Mets debut in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Phillies. Martinez, who signed a minor league free agent on Aug. 2, lined out to left field as a pinch hitter.
--2B Luis Castillo was out of the starting lineup for both games of Sunday's doubleheader, with Damion Easley starting at second base against Phillies LHPs Jamie Moyer and Cole Hamels. Interim manager Jerry Manuel said it was the staff's decision to bench Castillo and not a health issue.
--RHP Pedro Martinez, who allowed six runs in four innings in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader to the Phillies, said he didn't experience the stiffness that inhibited him in his previous start against the Marlins. "It was a lot better today," Martinez said. "Too bad the results were not the ones everyone expected, including me."
BY THE NUMBERS: 281 -- Steals by Mookie Wilson in his Mets career. SS Jose Reyes matched that franchise-record mark Sept. 3 in Milwaukee.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "It was good. I'm starting to get the stroke back. It's been a hectic year. I don't want to throw this last month away. I want to build on things, try to get back to how I was in the first half and finish strong." -- RF Ryan Church, whose grand slam Sept. 3 in Milwaukee was his first home run since June 1, before a seven-week absence to deal with post-concussion symptoms.
