Mets general manager Omar Minaya expressed no regret for the team's handling of Ryan Church's injury, even though the outfielder could miss at least another four starts.
Church sustained a concussion last Tuesday, and he's missed seven starts. Church must be symptom free of the concussion for a day, and then the team would wait an additional 48 hours before clearing him to play.
Those symptoms include headache, nausea, dizziness, slurred speech and loss of memory.
"I don't second guess myself," Minaya said when asked if he regrets his call not to place Church on the disabled list immediately.
"We made the decision on a daily basis... We leave it up to the player to tell us what are his symptoms. We ask him how he feels."
Church has gone 1-for-4 as a pinch hitter the last week, most recently Monday. Doing so cost the Mets the chance to disable Church retroactive to May 21, the day after the injury.
METS 7, MARLINS 6 (12 innings): For the first time this season, the Mets looked like a team with fire.
"It reminded me of '06," David Wright said. "These were the kinds of games we won all the time in '06... These are the kinds of games that get your confidence back. These are the kinds of games that get your swagger back."
After Oliver Perez coughed up a 4-1 lead, Endy Chavez tied the game with a homer in the ninth. Florida regained the lead in the 12th on its fourth homer of the game, but Fernando Tatis won it with a two-run double.
"These are the type of games that could jumpstart us," Wright said.
