The rainout of Friday's Mets-Braves game left the Mets scrambling to juggle their rotation.

Originally, Johan Santana was scheduled to pitch Friday's opener opposite Mike Hampton, with Pedro Martinez opposing Jo-Jo Reyes on Saturday.

But with Santana now pushed to Saturday's 3:55 p.m. EDT game because of the rainout, he won't be available to also pitch in Washington next Wednesday.

The Mets already had planned to use rookie Jon Niese on Tuesday in D.C. in disabled John Maine's rotation spot, and didn't want to use inexperienced starters on consecutive days against the Nationals with Santana now unavailable to pitch Wednesday.

So now the Mets will use Santana and Niese in Saturday's doubleheader against the Braves, followed by Oliver Perez on Sunday, Martinez on Monday in Washington, Mike Pelfrey on Tuesday and a spot starter on Wednesday.

Niese hasn't appeared since allowing five runs in three innings in his major-league debut on Sept. 2 in Milwaukee.

BRAVES at METS, PPD: Friday's game was postponed by rain and will be made up on Saturday as part of a doubleheader.
